Oh, to have time.
I didn’t even realise how all-consuming this course had become until I finished my last exam. I have literally done nothing but medicine for the last 3 months.
Which means I’m totally lost for what to do with myself now it’s over! At the moment I’m making the most of being able to stay up a bit later and sleep in longer. I downloaded Caesar 3 for £2, which was a total bargain because that game is BOSS. I walked around the lake achieving nothing in particular. I began the process of catching up with some people whose presence in my life I appreciate but have let slide. Tomorrow I’m going to try and get back into learning Norwegian. I’ve also applied for some ridiculous jobs in Nottingham, but I’m not expecting much to come from that. Once we’re closer to the summer I’ll phone up Home Fundraising who offered me an interview earlier in the year, and see what the crack is with them.
Guys, what in god’s name am I going to do for the next 3 months?! I have about £120 to last me until the 23rd September, which should be fun. I’m almost tempted to do something like attempt to hitch-hike to Morocco for charity (gang of medics did it over Easter), but knowing me I’ll end up locked in some sex dungeon somewhere. Which admittedly would help with the whole “killing time” thing. The other option is to get a jump on next year’s anatomy, but seeing as this is my penultimate decent-length break EVER I’m not sure I could justify that to myself.
TL;DR: I’m poor and completely addicted to my course. xD

Oh my god hold me this is scary shit
…No words.
Let the zombie hunters unite!
Yeah I really don’t believe this is gonna cause a zombie apocalypse.. I mean, it’s just a virus. They’re gonna cure it.
I also don’t believe it’s gonna cause a zombie apocalypse, because it isn’t real.
People get far too excited about this stuff!
Doesnt hurt to be alert though. I mean…just a few days ago, we were told that he was on some kind of drug.. and now its a virus that’s not curable? lol regardless of WHATEVER.. that’s some crazy shit.
The naive ones will be the first ones to go :/
Oh, I’m ready for it! aha. I just don’t think “the end is nigh” just yet..
Oh Tumblr, you’ll believe anything if it can be interpreted as a sign of the oncoming zombie apocalypse…
For those concerned, this is about as anti-science as homeopathy and so, SO fake. (Y)

Pharmacists And Doctors In Kansas Can Now Deny Women Access To Birth Control And Chemotherapy
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) signed a bill yesterday that will allow pharmacists in the state to refuse to fill a prescription they think could be used to induce abortion. But since the “conscience” measure says they cannot be required to provide a drug or devise that they think “may result in the termination of a pregnancy” — but does not define which drug in particular — the law’s opponents say it could allow a pharmacist to interfere with a woman’s health care by refusing to distribute birth control or emergency contraception.
Women who already have difficulty obtaining contraception may face additional hurdles, according to Julie Burkhart, founder of an abortion-rights group in Wichita, Kansas:
Burkhart said the law could create a hardship for women in small towns with a sole pharmacist who may refuse to fill certain prescriptions. In larger cities, women will have to make sure they go to a cooperative pharmacist, she added.
“Women should not have to go armed with a lot of research when looking for a physician or pharmacist in the community,” Burkhart said.
No pharmacist could be fired for refusing to fill such prescriptions, and doctors can refuse to refer patients to pharmacists who would fill a birth control prescription.
Additionally, the Associated Press had reported that the law could “allow a doctor to refuse to provide chemotherapy to a pregnant cancer patient because it might end her pregnancy.”
Brownback’s office justified his signing by saying the bill “gives more legal protection to Kansas health care providers who refuse to participate in abortions” based on their conscience. Kansas already had a law that allowed medical professionals to refuse to assist in abortion procedures.
While Kansas lawmakers failed to pass a sweeping anti-abortion bill that would have required doctors to give false information to their patients, the expanded “conscience” law is just one of several laws recently approved in the state that undermine women’s health and well being.
Another day. Another roll back on reproductive rights.

Dammit, Kansas.
“No pharmacist could be fired for refusing to fill such prescriptions, and doctors can refuse to refer patients to pharmacists who would fill a birth control prescription.” —> Um… doctors don’t “refer” patients to pharmacists. We just give people a prescription and tell them to go fill it. And the DOCTOR is the one who writes the BC prescription, so why would the doctor care if a certain pharmacist “fills birth control prescriptions”.
But that nit-picky point aside — this whole ruling is so STUPID it makes me want to puke (every morning, along with getting breast tenderness).
Actually helping to fulfil the pro-lifers’ ridiculous agenda? Nope.

No more anatomy!
So, as of 2:15pm, I’ve finished this year’s anatomy! The spotter exam was pretty vile (whoever said the mock was a good estimate of the difficulty was a freakin’ liar…), but I just about kept it together. I’ve heard that a couple of people in the other group were reduced to tears by it, so I think I’m okay. The True/False paper had a few nasty questions, but it was mostly fair. I definitely won’t be coming back for resits in August, but beyond that it’s hard to say for sure how I did. At least we get our results fairly quickly at uni; I think it’s mid-June. Everything crossed!
To celebrate the small victory of…well, surviving…we took a boat out on the lake and rowed around for an hour. We got up close and personal with a nest of baby moorhens and a ditzy little cluster of baby geese, and managed to avoid capsizing. Better than anticipated!
Tomorrow I have a little paid study in the morning, then I’ve got to really get my head down for our cardiovascular, respiratory and haematology module, which has gone massively to the wayside while anatomy was still around…
Wish me luck, Tumblites!
